Baseball - Freshman
Coach Kent Messer
The 2003 Freshman Baseball team consists of 18 players and 3 managers. This year, they have 26 games scheduled with participation in 3 tournaments.
All incoming freshman interested in trying out for Freshman Baseball are encouraged to enroll in the 8th period baseball class offered every fall (if not involved in another sport). The main focus of the course is to improve on the fundamentals of baseball as well as strength and conditioning training.
The Freshman Baseball Team will be determined before the conclusion of the Fall Semester. Tryouts begin in mid November and go through mid December (Lasting usually about 4 1/2 weeks during the athletic period only).
Baseball participation in the spring will consist of regular practice and games during Spring Break.
If you have any questions or need additonal information, contact Coach Kent Messer.
Summer Baseball Information
It looks like right now there are a number of options. Please understand that
these options relate to you as a parent and the players themselves
cooperatively. We encourage all our baseball players to play some sort of
summer baseball based on their own individual interests. Some like to play
60 games with weekend tournaments all over the country. Some would rather
play 20 games with vacation time or other travels. Whatever the case may
be, we encourage participation somewhere...
If you already have a summer league lined up, that is great...please do not
feel like you need to play on one of these teams or organizations...these
are just some options for people who are still looking...
Unfortunately, UIL restricts high school coaches from coaching their own
players during the summer, so we are on our own for finding coaches...any
volunteers or suggestions :)
North Dallas Chamber
Numerous Chamber coaches will be holding tryouts over the next couple of
weeks. I recommend trying out for the Royals who are coached by Kory Byrd. (THIS TEAM IS NOW FULL)
There are other teams holding tryouts over the next couple of weeks, if interested, contact the North Dallas Chamber Baseball Association.
They play around 15-20 games with a Tournament in early July.
Many of you have participated in BBI in the past and have a pretty good idea
with how to field a team. We can put our own team together and look for
someone to coach it or the boys can tryout for other teams. I will keep my
ears open for teams who are looking for players. BBI is a good league with
Numerous Dallas select teams will be holding tryouts around the Dallas area
over the next couple of weeks. The Dallas Mustangs organization will hold a
tryout the next three Sundays at First Baptist at 1:30 PM. (THE TRYOUT SCHEDULED FOR LAST SUNDAY, FEB. 23 WAS CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER. TRYOUTS WILL RESUME THIS SUNDAY) This is a good
organization that plays a lot of game at a highly competivie level. They
play 50+ games with 3-4 tournaments.
Games are played Mon, Wed, & Fri at 6PM. Season starts the first week in
June. Play other JV teams around the Dallas Area (Richardson, Rowlett,
Plano, Mesquite). The only cost for the league is umpires which is $80 a
game and two baseballs per game. The umpire cost is split between both
teams on the day of the game, each team pays $40. The only other cost would be uniforms...if needed, and possibly a field fee.
We would need to put our own team together and find a coach as well.
